Let's talk about unions. Unions are no burden on the American system. Unions build up our systems across the nation. They brought us weekends off, pay raises, among many other things. Unions are the backbone of this nation. Now let's talk about the Colorado Springs Education Association and the Colorado Education Association and the importance they put on protecting our schools in our community. In 2019 when many educators went on strike over teacher wages, Colorado Springs protested for one day. Because of the work and leadership of members of the Colorado Springs Education Association, School District 11 came to a quick agreement of paying our teachers more. Director Jason Jorgenson believes that they are the ones to blame for failures in schools like Mitchell High School. I won't even begin to go down the lines of the choices being made at Mitchell High School, but what happened, the dismissal and reapplying/reconsideration of all Mitchell High School staff, was in no way the fault of the Colorado Springs Education Association. The fault is in no hands! Our teachers did their job endlessly with pride, passion, and truth being held. Unlike Director Jason Jorgenson, I stand with the Colorado Springs Education Association and believe without a doubt or hesitation that their work is endless. Let us stand up for the Colorado Springs Education Association, the Colorado Education Association, and the National Education Association. Their work is what keeps educators alive and going.

I mean no disrespect to Director Jorgenson but when someone states that they believe a private education is better than a public education, the question comes of what is the reason you are sitting on a public board of education? District 11 is a district that teaches inclusivity, diverse cultures, and creates a welcoming environment for all students. If you believe that a private education is better, than go sit on their Board. Go work for a private education. Allow those who are working to truly bring a diverse culture to D11 to sit in that seat and actually represent the needs of public education. D11 deserves better than these comments. D11 deserves better than the comments of Jason Jorengson. No other thought about it!
As the first openly gay person to run for public office El Paso County, Co, I would like to take this moment to wish everyone a happy pride! This past year has been so hard for so many people. For some they lost their senior prom, for some they lost a loved one, for some they may be closeted and stuck home with family that don't accept them, all around this last year has been a hard one. But there is hope in the future. There is hope in the fact that vaccines are rolling out quickly. There is hope in the fact that the numbers of those infected are dropping drastically. There is hope in the fact that change is truly coming! Our communities are beginning to go back to somewhat of normalcy and moving on a pathway forward. 2020 was a hard year and 2021 is standing in the middle, but together we are moving towards a better day. Happy Pride friends! Let's build a community up together!
