Colorado Springs School District 11 is a district filled with diversity, inclusion, and equity for all. D11 has grown in so many ways over the long years from where it was in 2001 as a district banning GSA clubs to todays life. It brings sadness that today, I received a letter from an anonymous person stating that as an LGBTQ+ person I do not belong in a public role and that I should drop out of the race. May 17 is a day that works to create a fight against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia. Today of all days, I received the below letter stating that the Board of Education should only be White, Straight, and Christian people. This is not who District 11 is and is not a representation of School District 11. Our community is better than this and has so much potential for a future yet to be imagined. In America, we do not have to agree on every issue but the key to growth and success is respect. Please give respect to others and if you can't do that, then please remain silent.
