Joseph Shelton, a proud 10-year alumnus of Colorado Springs School District 11, is dedicated to ensuring every student, staff member, and community voice is heard and valued. Having attended D11 schools from elementary through high school, Joseph’s connection to the district fuels his commitment to fostering positive change.

In 2008, as a student at Irving Middle School, Joseph experienced firsthand the challenges of school closures when Irving was shut down. This pivotal moment sparked his lifelong passion for advocating for a more inclusive, responsive, and equitable education system where every student has a voice in shaping their future.

Currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Political Science at Pikes Peak State College, Joseph brings academic preparation and professional experience to his campaign. He works at Colorado College as a Campus Safety Officer, where he actively contributes to the well-being of students and staff. Previously, he served as the Program Assistant at Inside Out Youth Services, which allowed him to work closely with young people and empower them to thrive.

Joseph is running for the District 11 Board of Education because he believes the current board has lost focus on its core mission—serving the students, staff, and community with integrity and a nonpartisan commitment to educational excellence. Instead of prioritizing political ideologies, Joseph is committed to restoring honesty, transparency, and accountability to the board.

 

His vision centers on creating an inclusive and forward-thinking education system that prepares every student for success while addressing the diverse needs of the district’s community. A simple yet powerful belief drives Joseph’s campaign: when we invest in our students, we invest in a brighter future for all.
